what’s happening this week at Gaia?
We're kicking the week off with a sweaty double AMRAP - there are several open movements to rattle through here, including the infamous dumbbell snatch. Expect to see a lot of these coming up.
Following with the Open movement standards, Tuesday will see a hand stand push up and deadlift ladder with a cheeky Wall Ball buy in.
Pauses are the theme for this week's strength work. Front squats to help our Olympic Lifting from getting out of the hole, and Strict Press to strengthen our overheard position with the barbell - which we'll put to work with some snatch and overhead squats on Friday.
Finally, Saturday sees the most notorious hero workout return to Gaia - can you guess which one it is?
So, last night we pre-released 5 memberships, and within 24 hours they have SOLD OUT.

It's official, after months of planning we are moving our facility to Cramlington.
As many of you know we started out in Blyth, and due to a few planning restrictions ended up with a bit of an emergency relocation to Pegswood.
This is something we didn't ever foresee happening, and after a year of holding out and building up an excellent new member base we have been working hard to relocate back into the South Northumberland area.
So why bother moving again?
Well Pegswood was a temporary move for us, and we have found and located a building within Cramlington that we feel will be a huge move for Gaia to drive us forward & was always our ideal location.
With over 4500sq ft the new building is more than enough space for us to create our ideal gym.
>> With the extra floor space, there will be a bunch of new equipment to kit the place out in Cramlington's ONLY affiliated CrossFit Gym.
>> an absolutely stunning place to train with the works being carried out to the building.
>> Male and Female changing rooms with shower facilities.
>>Morning classes and new skills classes, plus lunchtime workout classes.
>>On site sports masseuse.
>>Plus an open gym area with weightlifting platforms for those of you who wish to come in and do extras.
AND NOT ONLY THAT, but we will be releasing ONLY 50 PRE-RELEASE MEMBERSHIPS for new members to join us.
We know these memberships will sell quickly, so if you want to be in the loop when they go on sale, sign up to our mailing list TODAY, to be the first to know when they go on sale.

All of Gaia's athletes knew there was a 5km run tonight. Not one shyed away from it.
Proud coaching moment.
For people who haven't specifically trained to run, and those members who have never completed a 5 run before, some truly epic scores on the board and very respectable times by all.
We frequently receive messages at the gym as to whether someone has to be fit to start CrossFit at CrossFit Gaia.
The answer is a simple no. That's the exact reason we exist.
However, if you want to start building some strength at home, check out our vlog on some basic strength exercises to help you get that first pull up!
A Radgy 7 step guide to keeping your paws in a state of utter perfection. - By Chris McVeigh
You're going to tear and rip your hands doing CrossFit, it's inevitable.
Lately my hands have been giving me a shit load of hassle (thanks, Murph); so here's a quick guide to sorting them out, reducing the risk of future tears.
1) Storm into Boots.
2) Buy a callous knife, an extra set of blades and a pumice stone. £10 max.
3) Soak your hands; do the dishes, have a bath, whatever.
4) Dry your hands.
5) Take your radgy new knife and CAREFULLY cut away small layers of the callous. Do not go so deep that you're cutting into raw tissue. It's not a race, take your time. You may end up blunting the first blade quite quickly, so replace as necessary.
5) Dry your hands and get to work with your pumice stone, little circles, until they're lovely and smooth.
6) Admire your belting new mitts.
7) Repeat weekly/fortnightly.
If the process is too painful it might be worth waiting a couple of days to let your hands recover before having another go.
Jade's story -
I am/was the epitome of a yo yo dieter, if there was a shake, wrap or pill that promised results I tried it. I am definitely not proud of this fact. Now I have tried gyms and was always intrigued by the weight section, you know that minuscule area hidden behind exercise bikes and cross trainers, but never ventured.
I have known Elaine for many years and unbeknown to her while she was in Dubai I would see on social media that she was looking really great, and seemed to be tied up in bands or in a handstand most of the time. Anyway when she came home and I learned she was opening Crossfit Gaia I was totally on board, I wanted to be tied up in bands and doing handstands too.
I won't lie my primary goal for starting here in the first months was weight loss and I definitely lost weight. However I have noticed my focus has switched from "I need to loose 1 more inch this week" to "I want to add 5kg to my back squat". The reason for this, I think, is because I have gained so much confidence.
Now don't get me wrong I have not had some otherworldly weight transformation in 4 months. But what I do have now is the ability to look in the mirror and say "Yeh I have a wobbly belly" then walk away and not end up sobbing in the fetal position, which probably has happened.
My partner has seen my stomach fully for the first time since having a baby 3 years ago and if he had of been drinking I would have been wearing it. He just couldn't believe how much I had changed mentally in a few short months.
I love this place and can honestly see myself doing this for as long as my body let's me. I cannot thank Gaia and it's members enough for all it has given me. The community spirit we have is undeniable, when you can work out for an hour and then end up chatting for another hour you know your in a good place, with good people.
The members of Gaia are a community we support each other mentally and physically, I have yet to find another gym that does that. If you knocked down the 4 walls around us, we would still be Gaia, Standing sweaty and with our capes blowing majestically in the wind.
Best thing I ever did was book my free taster
